The Sepsis Clinical Guide now offers access to the new ESCAVO Clinical Community. This community serves as a forum where clinicians can engage in discussions, share ideas, pose questions, and collaborate on matters relating to sepsis and other clinical topics.

Sepsis is a severe systemic infection that, if left untreated, can rapidly lead to circulatory shock, organ failure, and death. In 2017 alone, over 2 million individuals were admitted to hospitals in the United States for sepsis, making it the leading cause of index admissions. The cost of treating sepsis amounted to a total of $38.2 billion dollars for the US healthcare system, solidifying its position as the most expensive medical condition according to an AHRQ report. Shockingly, over 270,000 people succumb to sepsis in the US each year—a figure that surpasses the combined number of deaths caused by prostate cancer, breast cancer, and AIDS. Despite its significant impact on public health, there is limited awareness of this condition among the general population, resulting in inconsistent quality of treatment primarily due to delays in recognition and care.

Time plays an integral role in effectively treating sepsis. Prompt recognition of symptoms, appropriate antibiotic administration, and hemodynamic stabilization are crucial factors in determining success. Lack of knowledge regarding appropriate sepsis management at the patient's bedside leads to delayed identification of symptoms, severe complications, medical errors, increased treatment expenses, and avoidable morbidity and mortality. With this in mind, we have developed this app specifically for busy healthcare professionals. It provides essential management information based on the latest practice guidelines in a readily accessible format that can be utilized at the point of care.

The Sepsis app was created using the ESCAVO mobile publishing platform designed specifically for scientific content distribution on mobile devices. This platform offers an intuitive user interface, allows for efficient search functionality, provides annotation and bookmarking capabilities, and even supports calculators. All content within the app is meticulously referenced and appropriately footnoted.

The Sepsis app covers an extensive range of clinical topics, including:

 <li>Updated definitions, diagnostic criteria, and management guidelines such as the 2016 Sepsis-3 definitions and the latest recommendations from the Surviving Sepsis Campaign (SSC)</li>

 <li>Common differentials and etiology, as well as guidelines for conducting thorough history-taking and physical examinations</li>

 <li>Sepsis management bundles, early goal-directed therapy, hemodynamic management, adjunctive therapies, mechanical ventilation for sepsis-induced ARDS, and other essential guidelines from the SSC and the American Thoracic Society (ATS)</li>
 <li>Antibiotic therapy, including specific guidelines for treating HAP based on recommendations from the ATS and the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA)</li>
 <li>Guidance on the prevention, recognition, and treatment of Clostridium difficile based on the latest IDSA guidelines</li>
 <li>Information on diagnosing and managing pediatric and neonatal sepsis, including guidance on pediatric fever management, differences compared to adult sepsis, treatment of sepsis-induced persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn (PPHN), empirical antibiotic treatment recommendations for GBS infections, interventions for pediatric septic shock, and other pediatric-specific information</li>
